Before You Trade In Your Contact Lenses for Glasses – Check Out Your Contact Lens Care Routine

Contact lenses can provide a healthy, comfortable and convenient vision correction option and are an attractive alternative to eye glasses. Today’s contact lens technology and innovation allows almost anyone with vision correction needs to wear contact lenses. According to the Contact Lens Council, more than 30 million Americans wear contact lensesi.

Unfortunately, 2.7 million patients drop out of contact lens wear each year, most due to discomfort or claims of dryness and convenience factorsii. Many contact lens wearers can improve comfort and reduce irritation simply by practicing recommended contact lens hygiene and care.

Many patients associate their discomfort and irritation with the lenses themselves, and don’t realize they may be able to alleviate problems just by taking better care of their contact lenses. Contact lenses should be cleaned and disinfected after each use. Proper care can help contact lenses stay clean and comfortable.

Since all soft contact lenses, except for daily disposable lenses, require cleaning, rinsing and disinfecting each time they are removed from the eye and prior to re-inserting, it’s crucial to establish a thorough and consistent contact lens maintenance routine to avoid eye irritation and maximize comfort.

Changing your lens care solution – from a multi-purpose solution to a hydrogen-peroxide based solution may change the way you look at your contact lenses.

Clear Care® Cleaning and Disinfecting Solution is a hydrogen peroxide-based contact lens care product that offers excellent antimicrobial and cleaning efficacy, comfort and ease of use, and are an ideal choice for all soft and rigid gas permeable (RGP) contact lens wearers.  Clear Care® Cleaning and Disinfecting Solution penetrates the contact lenses to kill germs and bacteria for strong disinfection and deep cleaning, and contains a built-in cleaner that breaks down and lifts away debris; and helps to remove protein deposits.

Hydrogel peroxide based solutions have been shown to have superior cleaning ability and have gained favor with eye care practitioners. Peroxide-based solutions have a very strong disinfecting agent and contain a cleaner to help remove stubborn lipid deposits that tend to build up on silicone hydrogel lenses.

Clear Care® Cleaning and Disinfecting Solution is the leading hydrogen peroxide-based solution. In a study comparing it to leading multi-purpose solutions, silicone hydrogel wearers gave Clear Care® Cleaning and Disinfecting Solution superior ratings for comfortiii. Clear Care® Cleaning and Disinfecting Solution makes thorough overnight cleaning and disinfection simple. Just incorporate Clear Care® Cleaning and Disinfecting into your nighttime routine and your contact lenses will be ready to wear when you wake in the morning (or after soaking for six hours).

Unlike most MPS solutions, hydrogen peroxide-based solutions like Clear Care® Cleaning and Disinfecting Solution must be neutralized and should never be used to rinse the lens immediately prior to inserting directly into the eye. It should always be used in the provided specially designed lens case with built-in neutralizer. Lenses must be in the special case for at least six hours to allow neutralization before re-insertion.

“With Clear Care® no preservatives are left in the lens, so patients do not experience any burning or stinging. It’s a very effective system for contact lens wearers,” said Steven Bennett, O.D., F.A.A.O. of Bennett Optometry in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Many contact lens wearers who were ready to drop out of their lenses made the switch to Clear Care® Cleaning and Disinfecting Solution can attest to its superior cleaning and disinfecting power.

“I nearly went back to glasses before I discovered Clear Care®. I have the most comfortable lenses now! I have worn contacts for over 20 years and wish this had been recommended sooner,” said Melissa Passe, a patient from Rochester, Minnesota.

If you’re having problems with your contact lenses, talk to your eye care practitioner or pharmacist about changing to Clear Care® Cleaning and Disinfecting Solution. You might just start seeing things differently.
